Space flight — not an easy walk, warns astronaut Victor Glover.
NASA astronaut Victor Glover, who lived and worked on the ISS from November 2020 to May 2021, told American actor Tom Cruise what it's like to live in space . Cruise is going to shoot the first American film on the ISS, and Glover warned him that first of all you need to get used to the constant unpleasant smell.Victor Glover traveled to the ISS aboard SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft on November 16, 2020, and on May 2, 2021, he and his colleagues returned to Earth. The astronaut shared his impressions with actor Tom Cruise about the experience of being on the orbital station, as well as the sensations that await the actor in space. Cruz agreed with Elon Musk's company that they will help him in the implementation of his ambitious project — to film the first American action movie in space.
This interview of the astronaut and actor was recorded back in November last year, but NASA is only now made public.
«When you get to the ISS, you smell the strongest smell you have ever smelled, then you get used to it, but this is a very unusual experience», Glover answered Cruise's question about what it is like to live on the ISS.
According to Glover, there is also a toilet in the module where the training simulators are located.
«This is the most smelly module», says the astronaut. «There are mixed smells, it smells like a locker room and a hospital».
When Cruise asked what it was like to fly SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, Glover replied that it was a very high quality rocket.
«It takes off smoothly, but it still feels like a high jump. When we got to the 100 km mark (it is believed that space begins here — ed.), we all started to smile. It's an incredible experience»,» says Glover.
As for the spacewalk, the astronaut warned Cruise that it was not an easy walk.
«In outer space, you fly in a suit that, together with your body, can weigh up to 500 kg, while you rarely move your legs. It's like running two marathons, but on your hands», says Glover.
Regarding the return to Earth, the astronaut told an interesting story.
< p>«I felt gravity again, I felt my real weight and only then I realized that I urgently need to pee. I felt the weight of my bladder for the first time and it was an unusual sensation», says Glover.
