File photoNUR-SULTAN, Feb. 2 Kazakhstan's Mazhilis agreed with a Senate-proposed amendment to remove the need to coordinate political decisions with ex-president Nursultan Nazarbayev. The meeting was broadcast on the website of the lower house of parliament. The document was sent for signature to the head of state. At the same time, the deputies earlier approved two other amendments to the law on Elbasy (leader of the nation), retaining the right for him to be a member of the Constitutional Council of the republic, as well as to speak in the government and parliament.
Murat Nurtleu, who had headed Kazakhstan for almost 30 years, was appointed the new head of the presidential administration of Kazakhstan, Nazarbayev resigned on March 20, 2019. Then he remained in the posts of the head of the Security Council, the leader of the Nur Otan party in power and the head of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan (ANK). In April 2021, the Elbasy announced his decision to leave the chair of the ANC chairman in favor of President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, and on January 5, in the midst of unrest in the country, he handed over the primacy in the Security Council to him. On January 18, Nazarbayev delivered a video message to the people of Kazakhstan, 81- the year-old politician said that all power is concentrated in the hands of Tokayev, and the ex-president himself is a pensioner. At the same time, he denied rumors of a «conflict or confrontation within the elite».
