President Vladimir Putin relieved Natalya Poklonskaya of her duties as ambassador to Cape Verde and appointed her to the post of deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo. The relevant documents are published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
The President signed the decree on the appointment of Poklonskaya to the post of Russian Ambassador to Cape Verde in October 2021. The ex-deputy of the State Duma and the former prosecutor of the Crimea then emphasized that her appointment was “not a link”, but a position for which she had been preparing for a long time. At the same time, RBC's interlocutors explained this by the authorities' unwillingness to see the former prosecutor in the new composition of the State Duma because of her «not quite systemic behavior and extravagant statements.»
In January 2022, it became known that Poklonskaya decided to resign from the post of ambassador to Cape Verde «due to personal circumstances.» However, she did not name specific reasons.
Poklonskaya was a State Duma deputy from the United Russia party from 2016 to 2021. She was the only member of her faction to vote against raising the retirement age. Also in 2017, Poklonskaya opposed the screening of the film «Matilda», which told the story of the relationship between Emperor Nicholas II and the ballerina Matilda Kshesinskaya.
