“I dreamed of attaching him to Spartak: an interview with the first coach Ignatiev

Vasily BogdanovCorrespondent SportAll materialsIvan Ignatiev became one of the first pupils of the Krasnodar academy, who managed to gain a foothold in the first team. The striker excelled at youth level, among other things being the top scorer in the UEFA Youth League in the 2017/18 season (10 goals). Gradually, he grew to the main team, in which he scored 17 goals in 54 matches, but due to disagreements with the club's management on a new contract, he lost confidence and was soon forced to leave. A promising striker for 7 million euros was sold to Rubin, where his performance was no longer so impressive — only 3 goals in 40 meetings. In winter, Rubin decided to send the 23-year-old striker to Wings of the Soviets on loan. Perhaps for him this is the last chance to justify the advances generously given at the beginning of his career. His first coach in his native Achinsk, Vladimir Teterin, shared his opinion about Ignatiev with him. In an interview, he spoke about his first impressions of working with the forward, Ivan's unwillingness to leave for the academy of Sergei Galitsky, the reasons for the failure in Krasnodar and Rubin, the prospects for Wings of the Soviets and the forward's scandalous reputation.

Vladimir Teterin — Ivan moved to the «Wings of the Soviets». How would you rate this solution?— I hope it's correct. As we have seen, he did not succeed in Kazan. In Samara, on the other hand, there is a young team that actively plays on the flanks through crosses and runs. There are several guys with whom Vanka crossed paths in the youth team, so it is easier for him to adapt. Plus a coach who has worked a lot with young people and knows how to approach them. Vanya and I corresponded the other day, he was just undergoing a medical examination in Moscow. Everything should work out.

— PFC Krylya Sovetov (@fckssamara) February 2, 2022 — Will he be able to fully replace Ivan Sergeev, who left for Zenit?— I really hope for it. Everyone in Achinsk is worried about him — family, school, fans. You have to start sometime.— Why didn't Ivan succeed in Rubin? It would seem that Kazan has one of the best coaches in the country, an excellent team, serious tasks.– It seems to me that the main reason is that “Rubin” relies on the “column” in the line of attack, which was Djordje Despotovic. Vanya is a player of a different plan, he tries to act behind his back, he needs speed and space. He plays with his head weaker than other competitors, although there were no problems with this component at the children's level — he scored a lot. I don't know why he didn't develop this quality.

— Rubin Kazan (@fcrk) December 28, 2019 — It turns out that Rubin made a mistake with him, and he himself made the wrong choice?— When the proposal came from Kazan, we discussed it in detail with him. We came to the conclusion that Leonid Slutsky is the coach that is needed after leaving Krasnodar. In the training process, Vanya never had any complaints, he always treated his duties professionally. But stylistically, it really didn’t suit Rubin very much, although who knows how it would have turned out if he had more practice. «They put him on a plane to Krasnodar, and three hours later he returned to Achinsk»— Tell us about Ivan's early years . How did he get to you and what impression did he make?— There was no feeling that I had found a nugget, although the makings were definitely visible. He mostly played in the yard, and I just lived nearby. They invited me to work out at our school — first with another coach, but then he himself asked me to. In total, I worked with him for two years, and he was the strongest forward in the Krasnoyarsk Territory at his age. Vanya was also very fond of basketball and thought for a long time which sport to choose. But somehow we went to a tournament in Chelyabinsk, where he showed himself great, after which it became clear that a good football player could grow out of him. In addition, he looked good in futsal, because in our weather conditions we often had to practice in the gym.— What qualities distinguished him?— He always had complete order with speed and decision-making — very important indicators. I also note that he was never afraid to use his left foot, although it was designed worse than the right. At all the tournaments we went to, he stood out from his peers even from more eminent academies, like Chertanovo. There was an understanding that if we continue to take him to competitions, sooner or later they will pay attention to him. It’s a pity that we have very few such tournaments in Siberia, so it’s hard for the guys to find their chance.

Ivan Ignatiev — In a recent interview with Match TV, Ivan said that you had to persuade him to move to the Krasnodar academy. Can there be any doubt when such proposals are made?— These were only childhood fears. Still, the guy is 12 years old, and he was frightened by the prospect of leaving far from his relatives in a huge city. We had other options, including in Moscow, but we chose Krasnodar, as they promised to pay all the costs, even if Vanya would not suit them. Opportunities are limited here, so the purchase of round-trip tickets by the club has become a major help. By the way, shortly before the trip, my daughter had appendicitis, I wanted to postpone everything, but Vanya insisted: «Vladimir Nikolayevich, we must go.» And it's good that it happened, because in the very first review game he put down four balls and was immediately invited to stay.— How long did these fears hold him back?“The first year was especially hard. He is alone in a big city, and there have been unpleasant cases in the team — someone will throw a sneaker or something else. Perhaps it would be easier for him with his mother there. When he came for the holidays, he did not want to go back to Krasnodar. There was even a case when we took him to the airport, and three hours later he himself returned to Achinsk. His coach Alexei Malakhov called me: «Vladimir Nikolaevich, send him soon, otherwise there will be problems.» Fortunately, in a couple of years, all this was completely overcome. He is a good man for overcoming such a difficult challenge. The love of football helped.— Probably, the conditions provided by Krasnodar also affected?— Of course, and when the results started, the question of returning was finally closed. I'm sure they did absolutely the right thing by moving there. I also had another boy — Zakhar Azarov, who was taken to Lokomotiv, but everything turned out differently for him. There, the children were left to themselves, and in the end, nothing came of the guy. Then he also ended up in Krasnodar, but could not stand the competition with Matvey Safonov, and now he has already finished with football. In «Krasnodar» the conditions are excellent — they live in cottages, a teacher is always nearby, they are well fed, they teach at school, they instill discipline. For such an academy, Sergei Galitsky should be erected a monument during his lifetime.
