The lawyers of the Committee Against Torture (CPT) were able to get to the wife of ex-judge Saydi Yangulbaev, Zarema Musaeva, who was arrested in the case of using violence against a security officer and previously forcibly taken from Nizhny Novgorod to Chechnya. This was reported to Novaya Gazeta by the press secretary of the checkpoint, Natalia Kurekina.

The defenders found out that Musaeva is receiving medical care, but she still feels unwell. She twice — when considering a protocol on an administrative offense and when choosing a measure of restraint in a criminal case — an ambulance was summoned to court.
Musayeva also said that she “did not refuse, does not refuse and does not plan to refuse of her own free will” from the lawyers provided by the CPT. At the same time, on January 28, Hussein Aidamirov, deputy head of the police for public order protection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Chechnya, drove up to the lawyers at the special detention center, who showed the defenders a “statement” about the refusal of lawyers, allegedly written by Musaeva.
Kurekina emphasized that Musaeva categorically denies criminals imputed to her, both in an administrative case and in a criminal one. Previously, defenders were not allowed to visit Musayeva from the checkpoint.
The lawyers also got acquainted with the case materials. According to their report (available to Novaya Gazeta), the criminal case under Part 2 of Art. 318 of the Criminal Code (use of dangerous violence against a police officer) against Musayeva was initiated on January 27, the media claimed that she allegedly “scratched the face of a district police officer who wanted to draw up an administrative report on her.” She was charged on the 31st. During interrogation on the same day, Musayeva stated that on January 21, when she was taken to police station No. 1 in Grozny, she «was not even able to stand.»
In connection with what happened to Musayeva, the checkpoint filed a number of complaints with the competent authorities. They concern, among other things, the non-admission of defenders to her and the arrest of a woman, despite the fact that she has diabetes. There are no responses to complaints, according to the CPT.
