The authorities of Transbaikalia introduced a high alert regime due to dog attacks

Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory Alexander Osipov introduced a high alert regime in the region due to dog attacks. This was reported on the website of the local government.

“The reason for the declared high alert is the extremely acute problem of the threat of attacks by stray dogs on humans,” the message says.

According to officials, since the beginning of 2022, 64 cases of bites have been registered in Chita. In 2021, the number of such cases exceeded 2.3 thousand, «of which 212 are with dangerous localization and 11 with multiple deep wounds.»

The governor got the veterinary service to figure out how many additional shelters you need for stray dogs. He also recommended that local officials concentrate on capturing the animals.

The head of the region urged residents to report to the authorities about stray dogs and walk pets only on a leash and in a muzzle. In addition, the governor advised the police to «work out the issue» of punishing citizens who feed stray dogs and interfere with trapping.
