The Prosecutor General's Office handed over to the Lyubertsy City Court of the Moscow Region the materials of the case of the former Khabarovsk governor Sergei Furgal. His lawyer Mikhail Karapetyan told TASS about this.
The court has not yet set a date for the hearing; no case card appeared on the court website.

In November, the Supreme Court sent Furgal's case to Lyubertsy at the request of the prosecutor's office. Furgal and other defendants were against the transfer of consideration from Khabarovsk due to the time difference between the Moscow region and Primorye, where most of the witnesses in the case live.
The case will be heard with the participation of the jury, as requested by Furgal himself.

Furgal is accused of Contract killingsbusiness competitors in 2004-2005 and assassination attempts, as well as in illegal acquisition of weapons. The official was sent under arrest in the summer of 2020, which led to months of protests in the Khabarovsk Territory.
The ex-governor linked his criminal prosecution to a conflict with Amurstal co-owner Pavel Balsky, a former partner of the Rotenberg brothers. Meduzareported that the case against Furgal is based on the testimony of former police officer Vladimir Pershin, who referred to the stories of another person about the murders.
During his arrest, two more cases were brought against Furgal — about the organization of a criminal community (Article 210 of the Criminal Code) and fraud (Article 159 of the Criminal Code). Their details are unknown. In addition, the UK opened a case on fraud at the Amurstal plant related to ex-wife Furgala. These episodes are still being investigated and will be considered separately.
