On Tuesday, 29-year-old Ustyugov was fourth in the first semi-final and failed to reach the decisive race. Norway's Johannes Klebo won the gold medal in the sprint, followed by Italy's Federico Pellegrino. Russian Alexander Terentiev took third place.
"I asked for the start, for which I trained, for which I had been waiting for eight years. I'm thinking about ending my career. Look at the composition of the national team: everyone is young. Another Olympic cycle? No. My body can't take it. The last month has been very difficult. I was actually dragged to this Olympics by the ears", said Ustyugov.
The Russian skier is a two-time winner of the 2017 World Championship. He also won the Tour de Ski stage race in 2016/17.
