Gas companies will start billing based on energy delivered rather than gas volume
The Verkhovna Rada adopted bill 2553 on the acceptance and transfer of natural gas. According to the document, from May 2022, gas metering will be conducted not in cubic meters, but in kilowatt-hours, in accordance with European rules, reports the Chronicle.info with reference to Focus.
Ukraine wants to integrate into the European energy market. We are talking about the principle according to which each consumer pays for the amount of energy he receives, says Nikolai Bolkhovitin, head of the metrology and gas metering department of the Gas Transportation Control System Operator.
The energy value of natural gas depends on the region, time and sources of its supply. When the units of measurement for gas and electricity are unified, it will become easier for consumers to choose which type of energy to choose for heating, Bolkhovitin specified.
For customers of gas transportation services, such accounting is more convenient, because it will allow transporting, distributing and supplying fuel, measuring it in single accounting units.
Comparing this with what we have now in Europe — where consumers have gas meters in cubic meters, their indicators are multiplied by the temperature at which the fuel burns, and they get kilowatt-hours.
Bolkhovitin believes that the innovation will not affect the price of gas fuel from regions where gas with a high combustion temperature comes from. At the same time, the cost of the resource for regions with low gas combustion temperatures will slightly decrease.
The UTSU operator supports the new accounting rules introduced by the Ukrainian parliament, and will be ready to switch to them directly from May.
