MOSCOW, Feb. 12 Sally Jenkins, a journalist for the American Washington Post newspaper, wrote note in support of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, noting that the current anti-doping system is ineffective. The International Doping Testing Agency (ITA) on Friday reported that Valieva’s doping test of December 25, 2021 tested positive for trimetazidine. The test result was handed over by the anti-doping laboratory in Stockholm on February 8. The Russian Anti-Doping Agency imposed a temporary suspension on Valiyeva — after the athlete's appeal on February 9, it was lifted. For now, she is allowed to continue competing in the Beijing Olympics. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Skating Union (ISU) have appealed the decision to lift Valieva's suspension to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which will hear the case on Sunday and report the outcome to stakeholders on Monday.
