The International Doping Testing Agency (ITA) reported on Friday that Valieva’s doping test of December 25, 2021, tested positive for trimetazidine. The test result was handed over by the anti-doping laboratory in Stockholm on February 8. The Russian Anti-Doping Agency imposed a temporary suspension on Valiyeva, after the athlete's appeal on February 9, it was removed. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Skating Union (ISU) filed a protest with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which heard the case on Sunday evening. On Monday, CAS announced the rejection of the appeals, Valieva will perform in the individual tournament at the Games.
