The agreement between Kazakhstan and Russia on military cooperation was signed on October 16, 2020 in Nur-Sultan to replace a similar agreement dated March 28, 1994. Earlier, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan, Daryn Tuyakov, told parliamentarians that the agreement was signed in order to update and further develop military cooperation between the two states, since the provisions of the agreement of 1994 «are outdated, taking into account the realities of our time, and have also been implemented.» The norms of the agreement are aimed at implementation military cooperation in joint planning of the use of troops in the interests of ensuring the security of states and countering actions against challenges and threats to regional security, as well as interaction in other areas of military cooperation between the two countries. The agreement makes it possible to carry out military cooperation in such areas as operational and combat training, peacekeeping, military education and science, the activities of troops and their comprehensive support, improvement of the bilateral regulatory framework, culture, sports and other areas of military cooperation.
