
MOSCOW, February 20 The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov named wrong decision not to hold an awards ceremony following the team figure skating tournament during the Beijing Olympics. The Russian team, which included Kamila Valieva, won Olympic gold in the team tournament. Later it became known that Valieva's doping test, taken at the end of December, turned out to be positive. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) allowed the skater to participate in the individual Olympic tournament in Beijing. The awards ceremony for the winners of the team competition was not held. «The situation required an immediate and balanced reaction from us. The news of the December doping test was completely unexpected. Nevertheless, we managed to defend Camila's right to continue performing at the Games. We still believe that there is no there are no legal grounds for revising the results of the team tournament in figure skating, or for canceling the awards ceremony for champions and prize-winners,» Pozdnyakov was quoted as saying by the ROC website.
