Russian President Vladimir PutinMOSCOW, Feb. 21 Former USSR Secretary General Nikita Khrushchev donated Crimea to Ukraine, said Russian President Vladimir Putin. «In 1954, for some reason, Khrushchev took away Crimea from Russia and also gave it to Ukraine,» Putin said, addressing the Russians. According to him, after the Great Patriotic War, Joseph Stalin annexed to the USSR and transferred to Ukraine some lands that previously belonged to Poland, Romania and Hungary, as a kind of compensation, he endowed Poland with the original part of the German territories. «In fact, this is how the territory of Soviet Ukraine was formed,» Putin noted.
