File photoSIMFEROPOL, Feb. 23 Roman Chegrinets, co-chairman of the Assembly of Slavic Peoples of Crimea, said that the UN would have to recognize the Russian status of the peninsula, as this is an axiom that does not need proof. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, answering a question about what is needed to normalize relations between Moscow and Kiev, said: «The first thing everyone needs to do is to recognize the will of the people who live in Sevastopol and Crimea.» In turn, the official representative of the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, said that the position of the Secretary General of the organization regarding the ownership of Crimea has not changed and is connected with the belief in the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
"In my opinion, it is absolutely clear and it is clear that the choice of the people of Crimea — is an international and historical axiom that does not need to be explained to any person with a minimal understanding of international law. Therefore, sooner or later, the UN will have to recognize the Russian status of Crimea", Chegrinets told RIA Novosti.
According to him, Crimea was, is and will always be part of Russia. «The world has long accepted this absolutely fair maxim de facto and will accept it de jure soon enough,» Chegrinets emphasized.
