Daniil Medvedev became the first racket of the world

MOSCOW, 28 Feb. Russian Daniil Medvedev became the first racket of the world in the updated version of the rating of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), which was published on the website of the organization on Monday. The Russian overtook Serb Novak Djokovic. Medvedev became the third Russian tennis player to top the world rankings. Previously, Yevgeny Kafelnikov (1999) and Marat Safin (2000-2001) succeeded in this. Djokovic spent a record 361 weeks at the top of the rankings. Earlier, journalist Nikolaus Fink on Twitter said that Medvedev would be the first racket of the world for two weeks, and then he would fall to second place, as he would lose points for winning the tournament in Marseille, France. At 26, he has 13 ATP tournament titles to his credit and is the reigning US Open champion. Medvedev shares with Marat Safin the record for the number of Grand Slam finals among Russian tennis players (4 each).
