UN Headquarters in New YorkUN, Mar 7 UN Secretary General Spokesman Stefan Dujarric, commenting on the incident with the broken gates at the Russian Embassy in Dublin, stated the need for all countries to comply with the Vienna Convention. «This is a standard position. The Vienna Convention must be respected and we know that all host countries are doing everything in their power to do this» , — said Dujarric, commenting on the situation in Dublin. Earlier it was reported that on March 7 at 13.30 a large truck drove up to the gates of the Russian Embassy in Ireland, drove back and completely demolished the gates of the embassy. The incident took place in the presence of Irish police officers standing nearby and doing nothing. The Russian Embassy considers this incident as a clear and gross violation of Article 22 of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The Embassy is in contact with the Irish Foreign Office, demanding that the Irish authorities take comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of staff and their families.
