The head of the UK Department of Transport, Grant Shapps, wrote on Twitter that London equated the appearance of any Russian aircraft in British airspace to a «criminal offense.» According to him, in such cases, the authorities will detain aircraft from Russia. «I declared it a criminal it is a crime for any Russian aircraft to enter UK airspace, and now the government can detain these aircraft,» Shapps said. Earlier, London decided to ban Russian aircraft from flying into the country. This ban also applies to private aircraft. In this step, the Russian side decided to limit its airspace to aircraft that are associated with Britain and registered in the country.
