He said that in 2015 he met in social networks with a Ukrainian citizen living in Kyiv. According to him, he knows virtually nothing about her — her exact address, last name and patronymic, as well as contacts. He noted that the girl taught him the Ukrainian language, and also persuaded him to come and join the Ukrainian formations. “It’s good that it didn’t work out,” the young man says at the end. Such situations with young people happened repeatedly during the fighting against terrorists in Syria. However, after online dating, mostly girls went there. The loudest was the case of Moscow State University student Varvara Karaulova, who was arrested in October 2015. The girl, who was a second-year student at Moscow State University, secretly flew to Istanbul from her parents. A few days later, on June 4, Turkish authorities detained her in the border town of Kilis, along with a group of Russians who were believed to be trying to enter Syria. In December 2016, Karaulova was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison.
