Foreign mercenaries in Lviv, UkraineLONDON, Mar 15Three mercenaries from the UK — former special forces — could have been eliminated in an attack on the Yavorovsky training ground near Lviv in western Ukraine, the Daily Mirror newspaper reports, citing sources. On March 13, the Russian military announced a strike with long-range precision weapons the point of Starichi and at the military training ground Yavorovsky in the Lviv region, where, according to them, up to 180 foreign mercenaries and a large batch of foreign weapons were destroyed. According to the newspaper, three Britons were former employees of the British special forces. According to the publication, however, they were not part of the “foreign legion” units that were trained at the attacked training ground. Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Igor Konashenkov, said that foreign mercenaries were being transferred to Ukraine, who commit sabotage and raids on Russian military equipment, as well as aviation. The Russian Defense Ministry noted that all attacks by foreign mercenaries are carried out using weapons supplied by the West to Kiev: Javelin (USA), NLAW (UK) anti-tank systems and Stinger man-portable air defense systems, which require serious training to master. In turn, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Kuleba stated that the total number of applications from foreigners to participate in the conflict on the side of Ukraine approached 20,000. According to him, we are talking about «experienced veterans and volunteers from 52 countries.» Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal «the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.» For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out «demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine», to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for «bloody crimes against civilians» in Donbass. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Armed Forces strike only at military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops. With the support of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the DPR and LPR groups are developing an offensive. But there is no question of the occupation of Ukraine, the President of Russia emphasized.
