The suit of the prosecutor's office to recognize Meta as an «extremist organization» will be considered in the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow. The meeting card appeared in the database of Moscow courts of general jurisdiction.
The meeting was scheduled for 11:00 Moscow time on March 21.
The Prosecutor General's Office demanded a ban on Meta after the company decided to leave posts that violated their rules, including «calling for the death of Russian invaders» due to the invasion of Ukraine. Soon, Meta clarified that this is only valid on the territory of Ukraine.
Because of this, Roskomnadzor has blocked Instagram in Russia since March 14. Facebook has been down since March 4; the department explained the claims by the fact that several posts of Russian publications about the war with Ukraine received warnings about “false information”.
The Investigative Committee, in turn, launched an investigation against the Meta leadership under articles on calls for extremism and promoting terrorism ( Articles 280, 205.1 of the Criminal Code).
