File photoPRAGUE, Mar 18Berlin has abandoned the idea of deploying some of its military personnel from the NATO contingent in Slovakia to the Czech Republic, Czech Defense Minister Yana Chernokhova said on Friday. On Wednesday, after the meeting of NATO defense ministers , Chernokhova announced that part of the German troops allocated for the NATO contingent in Slovakia could be deployed in the Czech Republic. «Today (Friday) we learned that the German side abandoned this idea,» Chernokhova said. which is planned to be deployed in Slovakia in order to strengthen the eastern flank of the alliance, it is supposed to be made up of 700 military personnel from Germany, 600 from the Czech Republic, 400 from the USA, 200 from the Netherlands, 100 each from Poland and Slovenia. Among the military equipment that the contingent will have at its disposal will be the Patriot air defense system. At first it was assumed that the unit will begin its activities on March 15.
