Former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. File photoMOSCOW, Mar 18 Former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has been detained for 24 hours, his lawyer Menko Menkov confirmed. It was previously reported that Borisov and other ex-officials were detained during a large-scale police operation, related to the investigation of more than 120 cases of abuse of European funds in Bulgaria. However, representatives of the ex-premier's GERB party denied the information about the detention. Borisov's lawyer said that pre-trial proceedings were initiated against the ex-premier on March 17. He confirmed that Borisov was detained for at least 24 hours under the law on the Ministry of Internal Affairs, according to the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR). According to the lawyer, nothing was seized during the search of Borisov's house. The lawyer also claims that the search was carried out without a court order.
