File photoWASHINGTON, Mar 19 Republican U.S. Congressman Don Young, who served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for nearly 50 years, has died at the age of 88, Anchorage Daily News reported, citing his former assistants. Young was first elected to the US Congress in 1973. For almost half a century, he was a member of the House of Representatives from Alaska. In 2017, Young was awarded the symbolic title of dean of the US House of Representatives, which is given to the longest-serving congressman. In February, Young introduced a bill to the House of Representatives to completely ban seafood imports from Russia. On March 11, US President Joe Biden announced that the United States was imposing a ban on the import of alcohol, diamonds and seafood from Russia as part of the sanctions due to the events in Ukraine. The US Treasury announced that a ban on the import of alcohol and seafood from the Russian Federation into the country will come into force on March 25.
