Abramovich may buy Turkish club

ANKARA, Mar 23 CNN Turk alleges Turkish football club owner Göztepe is negotiating with representatives of Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, who fell under the sanctions, on the sale of the club. According to the channel, the owner of Göztepe, Mehmet Sepil, who resigned from the presidency due to the team’s unsuccessful performance in the national championship, sees a potential buyer in Abramovich club. «Negotiations began between Sepil and representatives of the Russian billionaire. It became known that Abramovich was in contact with Sepil through a Turkish businessman. It was stated that professionals from both sides assessed the market, and yesterday the ex-head of the club went to Ankara and held negotiations on this issue. Abramovich's representative and the club's managers are expected to hold a face-to-face meeting in a few days,» the TV channel reports. Sepil acquired Göztepe in 2014 for 7.5 million dollars. British authorities on March 10 against the backdrop of the situation in Ukraine imposed sanctions against seven Russian businessmen, including Abramovich. The English Premier League removed him from the management of the London football club Chelsea, which he has owned since 2003. Abramovich handed over management of Chelsea to a charitable trust and said he had decided to sell the club.
