
MOSCOW, March 24 Teams of Japan and Saudi Arabia qualified for the final part of the championship World Cup 2022, which will be held in Qatar. On Thursday, the Japanese in the penultimate, ninth round match of the third stage of the 2022 World Cup qualifying tournament in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) zone beat the Australian team in Sydney in Group B with a score of 2: 0. Kaoru Mitoma (89th and 90 + 4th minutes) scored a double. The Japanese team takes the first place in the group after 9 matches (21 points). The team of Saudi Arabia is on the second line (8 matches, 19 points), the team of Australia is on the third line (9 matches, 15 points). Neither the Japanese nor the Saudis will fall below the second place in the standings, thus, the teams have secured a direct exit to the final part of the World Cup. The Australians had previously guaranteed themselves the third place in the group and at the end of the third stage of the qualifying tournament they will play a play-off with the third team group A (UAE, Lebanon or Iraq) for reaching the intercontinental playoff round. The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar in November-December.
