The Russian invasion triggered the fastest-growing refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.
The United States plans to accept up to 100,000 Ukrainians fleeing the war. This was announced in the administration of American leader Joe Biden on March 24 crisis.
According to the UN, more than 3.5 million people have fled since Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, straining support systems in neighboring European countries hosting them.
The United States is going to accept Ukrainians not only under the refugee resettlement program — it is planned to attract family visas or «humanitarian early permission».
The publication notes that before the crisis erupted in Ukraine, Biden launched the largest US resettlement program since the Vietnam War, accepting some 80,000 Afghans after US troops left Afghanistan after 20 years of war.
It is noted that the US has also provided billions of dollars in aid to countries which accept refugees from Ukraine.
