The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) opened a case against the largest sugar producer Prodimex LLC due to an increase in retail prices for the product. This was reported by the press service of the department.

The company is suspected of illegally coordinating the economic activities of retail chains in order to increase sugar prices in conditions of increased demand (part 5 of article 11 of the Federal Law «On Protection of Competition»).
Earlier, the FAS reported that the largest retailers would limit the rise in prices for bread, sugar, dairy products and vegetables from the «borscht set» to 5%. This decision was of a “voluntary nature,” the service emphasized.
After the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, visitors to grocery stores and large buyers of sugar spoke of a shortage. Against this background, retailers have introduced restrictions on the volume of products that can be purchased in one hand.
