Gas will flow to Turkey and onward to neighboring countries in southern Europe seeking to move away from Russia.

Israel and Turkey are discussing the construction of a gas pipeline to the Israeli field «Leviathan». It can become an alternative to Russian gas supplies to southern Europe.

Representatives of the government and industry of both countries say that difficult maneuvering will be required to achieve any deal. /p>

The idea, first conceived a few years ago, is to build an underwater pipeline from Turkey to Israel's largest offshore natural gas field, «Leviathan». The gas will flow to Turkey and onward to neighboring countries in southern Europe seeking to move away from Russia.

A senior Turkish official told the publication that negotiations have been ongoing since Israeli President Isaac Herzog visited Ankara in early March, and in the coming months «concrete decisions» along the proposed route and the entities involved.

Industry officials, however, are more cautious, saying production restrictions and geopolitics could leave the plan dead weight.
