The Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) must continue to comply with the obligations of a member of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) even after suspension, the IBU press service reported. On Tuesday, the IBU executive committee suspended the membership of the RBU and the Belarusian Biathlon Federation in the organization with immediate effect amid the aggravation of Russian-Ukrainian relations. «Today's decision means that the RBU is no longer a temporary member of the IBU. Now the RBU can not enjoy any rights of a member of the International Biathlon Union, but must continue to comply with the obligations of an IBU member, «the organization's press service said. The issue of RBU membership should be reconsidered at the IBU congress September 15-19, 2022, unless the Executive Committee does so earlier. The RBU has had temporary membership in the IBU since 2017, for this reason, until 2026, competitions are prohibited in Russia, and citizens of the country are not allowed to hold positions in the IBU.
