MOSCOW, April 5 Grandmaster Sergey Karjakin positively assessed the reaction of the reigning world champion Norwegian Magnus Carlsen to be disqualified for supporting the Russian special operation in Ukraine. Earlier, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) decided to disqualify Karjakin for six months for publicly supporting the special operation in Ukraine, depriving the applicants of the opportunity to play at the tournament. Carlsen questioned the correctness of the decision to disqualify the Russian for «an opinion that differs from another.» «Support came from where they did not expect it,» Karjakin wrote, posting the news about Carlsen's support on his Telegram channel. The Candidates Tournament will take place from June 16 to July 7 . The winner will play a title match against Carlsen. Karjakin and Carlsen played for the world chess crown in 2016, when the Norwegian turned out to be stronger in the tie-break.
