CAS registered 10 appeals against the suspension of Russian athletes


MOSCOW, 5 Apr. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has so far registered ten appeals of Russian organizations against decisions of international federations to remove athletes from participation in international competitions, according to a court release. At the end of February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international sports federations not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete because of the situation in Ukraine. A number of IFs have followed this recommendation. CAS is currently considering the following appeal cases from Russian federations, athletes and teams:

  • —Russian Football Union (three appeals) vs FIFA and UEFA (a number of football associations act as third parties);
  • —Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) vs. European Olympic Committees (EOC);
  • —The Russian Skating Union (SKR), the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR), short track skater Semyon Elistratov, speed skater Angelina Golikova, figure skaters Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov against the International Skating Union (ISU);
  • —Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) vs. International Biathlon Union (IBU);
  • —Russian Rowing Federation vs. International Rowing Federation (World Rowing);
  • —Russian Rugby Federation vs. International Rugby Council (World Rugby);
  • —Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation, gymnasts Angelina Melnikova , Nikita Nagorny, trampoline player Mikhail Zalomin, judge Vitaly Ivanchuk v. International Gymnastics Federation (FIG);
  • —Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation, Melnikova, Nagorny, Zalomin, Ivanchuk and trampoline player Irina Karavaeva vs European Gymnastics Union (European Gymnastics).
