MOSCOW, April 5 Turkish Göztepe Deputy Chairman of the Board Talat Papatya said that Russian businessman Roman Abramovich did not contact representatives of the football club about buying it. D-Smart Spor previously reported that Abramovich became the owner of the club, which will be officially announced on April 8.
"Abramovich did not contact and did not tell anyone that he was ready to take over the management of the club. There was no such thing,» said Papatia, quoted by Fanatik with reference to the DHA.
On March 10, the United Kingdom authorities imposed sanctions against seven Russian businessmen, including Abramovich. Those sanctioned will be banned from entering the UK, and their assets in the country will be frozen. The English Premier League has removed Abramovich from the management of Chelsea, which he has owned since 2003. Abramovich handed over management of Chelsea to a charitable trust and said he had decided to sell the club. The British government must approve the sales license, but it will not allow Abramovich to receive any income.
