German Chancellor Olaf ScholzBERLIN, Apr 8 German Chancellor Olaf Scholz explains why Germany is still paying millions of euros to Russia for the supply of energy and when it can be stopped. «We are doing everything we can. We are doing a lot. I think that we have made a very strong decision, we are moving away from fossil fuels, we are investing and want to become a country which uses only renewable energy resources,» the German leader said at a briefing in London. He also pointed out that Germany must prepare to replace energy supplies from Russia, create the necessary infrastructure, for example, build terminals for receiving LNG, which can become an alternative to Russian natural gas. «For the transition period, we must import fossil fuels from other countries, not from Russia. And therefore we must prepare for this, including the supply of coal and oil» , — Scholz said, adding that it is planned to replace Russian coal and oil in Germany before the end of this year. According to the Chancellor, Germany «invests heavily» in order to become «independent» of Russian supplies, and Berlin «will be successful» in this work.Scholz postpones tank deliveries to Ukraine, media reports
