President of the Russian Fencing Federation (FFR) Ilgar Mammadov said that the organization filed a lawsuit in a Swiss civil court in connection with the removal of athletes from competitions under the auspices of the European Fencing Confederation (EFC). Earlier, the EFC executive committee decided that the competitions planned in Russia and Belarus would be postponed or canceled. Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials will not be allowed to compete under the auspices of the EFC. An extraordinary congress is scheduled for May 31. «Our lawyers filed a lawsuit with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but the International Fencing Federation (FIE) refused to go with us, so we had to file our claim with the Swiss civil court. We will be represented in court by Sofia Velikaya, Artur Akhmatkhuzin, Dmitry Zherebchenko and the federation itself,» Mammadov said.
