American cardiac surgeons urgently operated on children in Ukraine

An international group of cardiac surgeons from the US-based organization William Novick Global Cardiac Alliance made an emergency trip to Ukraine to operate on children in critical condition, and is ready to visit Russia for the same purpose, team leader Bill Novick told RIA Novosti. «Our team operated on six patients , including three newborns, two infants under the age of five months and one three-year-old child,» said Novik, whose group visited Ukrainian Lviv from March 13 to March 18. The cardiologist noted that this trip was not planned in advance, and therefore was organized in a short time, since the condition of three out of six babies was assessed as critical. «Ukraine turned to us for help because of complex and life-threatening newborn physiological defects,» Novik explained. /2022/04/1bbce4be68177892e82ec0083200239c.jpg» />More than two thousand orphans from Donbass arrived in Russia The doctor said that only once during his recent stay in Lvov he heard the roar of an exploding shell. When asked if this is comparable to the experience of working in Belgrade, where Novik worked during the NATO bombings back in 1999, he replied: «There is no comparison, Belgrade was much worse.» According to the cardiologist, despite the collective sanctions against Russia, he intends to continue working in the country and even plans to visit Kemerovo at the end of this year. “I don’t know what problems sanctions can create, but, you know, I would return to Kemerovo,” the American doctor noted with enthusiasm. Since 2008, Novik and the alliance of cardiac surgeons he leads have performed more than 400 surgeries in Russia. The organization includes a group of medical specialists from different countries, including those working in various hot spots around the world.
