In 2015, a 39-year-old employee of the Ministry of Agriculture of the republic, Tskaev, was detained on suspicion of attacking a riot policeman. According to investigators, during interrogation by the police, Tskaev was strangled with a bag and beaten, after which he died in the hospital.

The police were detained after at least two hundred residents of Vladikavkaz took to the streets to protest against police brutality. They were accused of exceeding their powers and abusing them, as well as forgery of documents (articles 285, 286 and 292 of the Criminal Code). In July 2021, the policemen were given sentences ranging from 2.5 to 10 years in prison.

Six policemen were released from liability due to the statute of limitations on episodes of abuse of power and forgery.

The rest of the police officers — Alan Khokhoev, Georgy Tsomaev and Shota Maisuradze, who, according to the investigation, tortured Tskaev, and Spartak Buzoev, who did not interfere with the torture, were sentenced to upheld.
