
MOSCOW, Apr 17 Italian road cycling world champion Elisa Balsamo was disqualified with of the Paris-Roubaix one-day race in northern France for illegal overclocking, according to cyclingnews.com. With about 50 km to go, Balsamo closed the gap on the leading peloton with a sticky bottle technique. Broadcast cameras recorded that the cyclist held her hand longer than expected when transferring a bottle from her team’s technical car, thanks to which she received additional acceleration from the accelerating car. As a result, Balsamo was removed from the race, where she was one of the main favorites. The victory at Paris — Roubaix was won by her teammate Longo Borghini.
