A court in Tatarstan has toughened the sentence to five years in prison for police officer Dinar Gafiyatov, who was sentenced to four years in prison in the case of the use of slave labor (Part 3 of Article 127.2 of the Criminal Code). This is reported by the human rights project «Axioma».
Gafiyatov was also found guilty of abuse of office with the use of violence and infliction of grave consequences (paragraphs «a» and «c» of Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code).

According to investigators, in May 2019, a 28-year-old employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs department for the Nurlat district, Gafiyatov, and his brother brought 47-year-old Idris Sadykov to the house of his father Ravil and forced him to carry out » dirty work.» The policeman and his father systematically beat the man, including for refusing to clean up animal excrement from the farm. When Sadykov did not want to clean the sewer, boiling water was poured over his hands.
After the man’s relatives reported that he was missing to the police, Sadykov was summoned to the department, where he was forced to sign a document, according to which he was kept on the farm for 20 days — worked for another person. A few days later, Gafiyatov released the worker.
On December 24, 2020, the Aksubaevsky District Court of Tatarstan sentenced the policeman, but the Supreme Court of the Republic sent the case back for a new trial. The father of an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ravil Gafiyatov, was given a four-year suspended sentence.
