The Liberal Democratic Party proposed to rename the Moscow municipal district «Sokol» in honor of Vladimir Zhirinovsky, but its residents took the idea negatively, deputy chairman of the district Vladimir Kalinovsky told RIA Novosti. He noted that a letter with a similar proposal addressed to the head of the district, Nikolai Stepanov, came from ex-deputy of the State Duma from the LDPR faction Vitaly Zolochevsky. The party refers to the image of a bird on the historical coat of arms of the organization, the name of the printed newspaper «Falcon Zhirinovsky» and the nickname of the supporters of the Liberal Democratic Party.
"In principle, this appeal <…> — absolute disrespect for the history of the district, for the inhabitants of the municipal district & # 34; Sokol & # 34;. Perhaps we will bring this issue to the upcoming meeting in order to publicly express the position of the council of deputies on this and also convey our position to the voters. I assume that the majority of deputies are categorically against this initiative and consider it unacceptable to change the name of the district", Kalinovsky said.
