Archival photoMOSCOW, April 19The State Border Service of Ukraine has extended the possibility of crossing the border for citizens of the country with internal passports, Strana.ua reports, citing Andriy Demchenko, a representative of the department. Earlier, Demchenko said that the majority of Ukrainian refugees will no longer be able to leave the country without foreign passports, an exception can be made only for those who come from the regions in which hostilities are taking place.
"This decision was made in view of the situation developing on the territory of Ukraine during martial law, when our citizens cannot quickly and timely issue a passport. It is for humanitarian reasons and according to previously reached agreements with neighboring countries that the employees of the border agency will carry out the passage of citizens of Ukraine, including the internal passport document. This applies to all citizens, regardless of the areas from which they are sent", the publication quotes Demchenko.
Over the past month and a half, Ukrainian citizens without passports could freely enter the European Union. Earlier, Demchenko stated that this was due to the heavy workload of the department’s employees who did not have time to properly process the documents of Ukrainians who had massively rushed abroad. On Sunday evening, the Ukrainian Railways company (Ukrzaliznytsia) reported on its official Telegram channel landing by the State Border Guard Service of Ukrainian refugees on the border with the countries of the European Union due to their lack of passports.
