File photoKALININGRAD, Apr 20Governor of the Kaliningrad region Anton Alikhanov told RIA Novosti that transit control, strengthened by Lithuania since the start of the special operation in Ukraine, has now returned to normal. «Undoubtedly, they have strengthened transit control, we felt it about four weeks ago. Now everything has returned, one might say to the normal regime,» Alikhanov said in an interview with RIA Novosti, answering the question whether Lithuania's promises to strengthen the security of transit to Kaliningrad, up to the escort of carriers by helicopters, came true. «If at some point in time almost every car was inspected, they drove through all special equipment, now it has become a little simpler, we have returned to those levels in terms of the number of cars passed per day that we saw before,» the head of the region explained. According to the governor, in addition to escorting Russian transit trains, Lithuania «is what to spend resources on.» «Several hundred cars cross the border every day, keeping track of them all is very strange, in my opinion,» — p Alikhanov concluded. Earlier it was reported that Lithuania planned to tighten control over trains transiting through Russia from the Kaliningrad region. For these purposes, Lithuania requested additional funding from the European Commission: 24 million euros, in particular, for the purchase of helicopters, as well as tracking equipment. Now, all trains that transit to Kaliningrad and back, at the entrance to Lithuania, are equipped with special tracking devices that allow remote monitoring. In total, about 150 security cameras have been installed along the transit route. It was reported that Lithuania wanted to increase their number. Also, transit trains can be optionally accompanied by helicopters. It was noted that Lithuania planned to maintain such control constantly, during the entire transit.
