MOSCOW, April 20, Andrei Simonenko. Decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA) to suspend payments to the Russian Football Union (RFU) for hosting the 2018 World Cup under the FIFA Legacy program looks rather strange, since the RFU is not affected in terms of FIFA membership, sports lawyer Anna Antseliovich said. Earlier, RFU development director Maxim Mitrofanov said that FIFA has suspended payments for hosting the FIFA World Cup. «Football teams have been suspended from playing in international tournaments through FIFA and UEFA, and the RFU is not deprived of their rights. Therefore, the suspension of payments through the FIFA Legacy line looks somewhat strange. These payments are based on of the agreement, so we need to look at what conditions for suspending payments are prescribed there, whether one party can refuse payments and what protection mechanisms the other side has,» Anceliovich said. «Yav but this treaty provides mechanisms for resolving disputes. If one party does not agree with the payments, then a claim is first written, and then the situation is considered by the court indicated in the contract. That is, this decision can be appealed according to the right provided for in the contract,» the lawyer added.
