File photoWASHINGTON, Apr 22 Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov called the decision to suspend Russia's status as a permanent observer to the Organization of American States (OAS) a serious mistake. «We consider the adoption of today's resolution a serious mistake. Any task international structure is to unite states in solving pressing problems, of which there are more than enough in the region,» the ambassador's commentary, published on the diplomatic mission's Telegram channel, says. The OAS has become weaker. It alienated a reliable friend. In this situation, almost all OAS countries lost, with a few exceptions,» the commentary says. «We understand that our Latin American partners are under unprecedented pressure from the United States and its satellites. This is part of a targeted campaign to isolate Russia on international arenas.We are being punished for standing firm behind We pursue our legitimate national interests and refuse to submit to someone else's will,» Antonov said. «We are bewildered by the efforts to introduce the topic of European security, which is absolutely far away from it, into the agenda of the OAS. We are outraged by the inclusion in the resolution of unsubstantiated accusations against us of violating international law. The document refers to media reports, their distorted interpretation of events in Ukraine. We regret that the decision, unprecedented for the OAS, to review the observer status was based on false facts, which many of the delegations are only familiar with by hearsay,» the ambassador said. He stressed that Russia is open to continuing cooperation with the OAS.
