MOSCOW, April 24 World number 26 Daria Kasatkina said she was disappointed the removal of Russian tennis players from Wimbledon, but did not notice any changes in attitudes towards them abroad. The organizers of Wimbledon banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in the tournament due to the situation in Ukraine. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) criticized the decision, calling it discrimination based on nationality.
"Of course, we as athletes are disappointed that we will not be able to take part in one of the biggest tournaments. But now much more important and large-scale things are happening in the world. Human lives are much more important than Wimbledon, it’s obvious", the German portal Sportschau quotes the words of the Russian woman.
“Everything is fine on the tour, it seems that nothing has changed (in relation to the Russians). in a safe place thanks to our organizations,” Kasatkina added. The Wimbledon tennis tournament will be held in the UK from June 27 to July 10.
