MOSCOW, 30 Apr. Tick bites can cause borreliosis (Lyme disease) and have long-term consequences, including the risk of stroke, neurologist Sebastian Rauer said in an interview with Welt, cited by Focus.de. When bitten, bacteria can enter the body that affect the nervous system and spinal brain, as well as causing serious inflammatory processes. If you do not resist the infection, then it can cause borreliosis and other consequences that appear years later. A characteristic sign of Lyme disease is the appearance of a red circle on the skin and the spread of redness from the bite site. Experts note that the symptoms of the disease are most often visible after weeks or months. Among them — acute pain, tingling, sometimes — paralysis of one or both sides of the face, most often they appear at night. The risk of long-term damage increases if the disease is not recognized within the first six months. Rauer noted that a two-week course of antibiotics can restore health after a tick bite. Lyme disease can be recognized by analyzing the cerebrospinal fluid. Otherwise, it will cause damage to the brain, diseases of the cardiovascular system and can lead to a stroke.
