French police officers detain radicals at a May Day demonstration on Place de la Nation in Paris, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports from the scene. The traditional May Day demonstration started on Sunday from Place de la République in Paris around 15.00 local time (16.00 Moscow time). Various trade unions, youth organizations, left-wing politicians, representatives of socialist and communist parties, as well as supporters of the Yellow Vests movement take part in it. The march was peaceful until it was joined by radical black block youth. In the alleys along Voltaire Boulevard, where the police are on duty, they began defiantly setting fire to garbage cans, demolishing metal fences, getting pieces of asphalt out of the pits and throwing it, along with stones, at law enforcement officers. In response, law enforcement officers used tear gas. The radicals then began to throw gas bombs and glass bottles at the police officers. The procession was accompanied by provocations from the demonstrators and clashes with the police. Here, clashes between radical demonstrators and law enforcement officers continued. The police again used tear gas, and also made several arrests of young black block people. About 250 May Day demonstrations are held throughout France on Sunday. It is expected that 20 thousand people will take part in the demonstration in the French capital. 1,500 police officers are monitoring the observance of order.
