World War II veteran and US citizen Alfred Corby took part in the Immortal Regiment online conference in the States and expressed his hope that the American and Russian peoples would once again cooperate. Corby, who was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, said he joined the US Army at the age of 18 shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served three years as an aircraft mechanic in the Pacific theater of operations. «I have the honor to participate in the Immortal Regiment. And I join you in paying tribute to the memory of war veterans whose courage and dedication defeated the evils of Nazism. I sincerely hope that we can to revive the spirit of the Elbe for our two great nations to once again appeal to the common interests of mankind,» Corby said. «Let our two peoples cooperate again,» he said.
