He added that the increase in prices for goods in supermarkets began at the beginning of the year before Russian special operations in Ukraine. Earlier, Cystat, the statistical service of Cyprus, reported that prices in Cyprus for goods and services in April increased by 8.8% compared to April 2021. The biggest changes compared to April 2021 were recorded in electricity prices — an increase of 39.02%, oil products increased by 31.98%, agricultural products — by 18.26%. A number of Western countries have introduced several packages of sanctions against the Russian Federation due to situation in Ukraine. The EU countries are seriously considering the possibility of abandoning Russian oil and gas, the sixth package of EU sanctions provides for the introduction of an oil embargo, but a number of countries, in particular Hungary, are blocking its adoption. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy West, and the sanctions dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy.
