
MOSCOW, May 19. Referees from Russia will not be appointed to the matches of the World Cup in Qatar, which will be held in 2022, according to the website of the International Football Federation.
The list includes 36 chief referees, 69 assistants and 24 people who will be responsible for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. It is noted that the referees were selected based on their qualifications and results shown in FIFA tournaments, as well as in other international and national competitions in recent years. Russian judges were not included in the list.
For the first time in history, women will work at the meetings of the men's tournament. The matches will be officiated by chief referees Stephanie Frappart from France, Salima Mukansanga from Rwanda and Yoshimi Yamashita from Japan. Assistants will be Neusa Back from Brazil, Karen Diaz Medina from Mexico and Katherine Nasbitt from the USA.
Earlier, the team of Russian referee Sergey Karasev worked at major international tournaments. It served the matches of the 2016 and 2020 European Championships, as well as the 2018 World Cup.
The World Cup in Qatar will be held from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
